1. Does Canada still need new immigrants?

The reasons that you may want to immigrate to Canada may be different, among many factors, education, medical care, personal development, living expense and economic aspects are the common ones. On the other hand, few people may question the reason for Canada to welcome immigrants.  Why Canada continues to need new immigrants?

Canada need new immigrants to support its economic growth. The aging population in Canada tells us that Canada need new immigrants. The job vacancies of certain technical professions across the country tells us that Canada need new immigrants. The job vacancies of talents in key industries tells us that Canada need new promote its economic growth.

Besides that, Canada has the traditions and responsibilities for humanitarian support for refugees; another remarkable culture in Canada is its support for family reunification.

The above said can be seen from the Canadian Immigration and Refugee Law, Canada’s immigrants undertaking is divided into three classes:
1. Economic class;
2. Family class;
3. Refugees and humanitarian class

2. What are the key criteria in selecting the Canadian Immigrants

The Canadian Immigration and Refugee Law and its rules make specific plans and rules for each type of immigration.

The first category is economic immigration. Canada needs these skilled workers to support its labor force and economic growth. These skilled workers have strong language skills, work experience and educational skills, and are eager to succeed. Therefore, they play a vital role in Canada’s efforts to support economic growth and social services such as education and universal healthcare.
The purpose of the economic category is to ensure that new immigrants who pass such programs are able to achieve self-sufficiency in Canada. That is to say, for a skilled worker,  the Canadian immigration system focus on examine whether the applicant has the ability to find a local job in Canada;  for an entrepreneurial immigration candidate, the Canadian immigration system needs to examine whether the applicant can successfully establish a business in Canada and achieve self-sufficiency.

The second category is  family class. Canada welcomes relatives of Canadian citizens and permanent residents to immigrate to Canada through sponsorship. This is because a strong family relationship is the cornerstone of Canadian society and economy. Allowing close family members to live in Canada provides the family with the emotional support needed to prosper Canadian society and economy. The selecting criteria of family reunification is to examine the true relationship between the Canadians and overseas applicants. If they are direct and close family members, there is no need to consider too many financial conditions. But if Canadians are sponsoring parents or other relatives, the financial capabilities must be determined. Please check more information in family class.

The third category is refugee class. Canada has a humanitarian spirit, providing  international responsibilities to refugees and people in need of protection. In 1986, the United Nations awarded Canada the Nansen Medal, which is the United Nations’ highest honor for countries who have performed well in helping refugees. Canada remains the first and only country to receive the Nansen Medal.
Refugee immigrants focus on the examination of the authenticity of their persecution and the personal injury caused by this persecution. For details, see Refugee Immigration.

COVID-19: Impact on Canada’s immigration system
Despite the global coronavirus pandemic, Canada has set a goal of receiving 400,000 new immigrants each year from 2021.
The global coronavirus pandemic is affecting Canada’s immigration system. However, since the beginning of the pandemic, the Canadian government has been committed to doing its best to process immigration applications. In addition, the new crown has caused Canada to strengthen its commitment to immigration. Towards the end of 2020, Canada announced that it would raise its annual immigration goal to more than 400,000 new immigrants per year, which is the highest level in its history. Before COVID-19, Canada’s goal was to exceed 340,000 new immigrants each year.
